Essential Question

Essential Question: What does our relationship with food reveal about us, and our relationship with the world?

Goal: to connect our relationship with food to the world.

Reading: You should be done with your book by Friday.

Agenda:
  1. You will read an article about Globalization. You must choose two of the ideas below and follow that idea through the article.
    1. Passive (not being active/always waiting for things/prepackaged)
    2. Invisible/Hidden (things we don't pay attention to/hidden form our view)
    3. Obliviousness (not aware of/ignorant about)
    4. Big Business (companies having too much power)
    5. Addicted to pleasure (always chasing things that make us feel good in the moment)
    6. Overuse of chemicals
    7. Sameness (conformity/getting rid of differences)
    8. Consumer (always buying/using things up/devouring)
  2. Your annotations must identify the topic and explain how it fits.
    1. Big businesses during the industrial revolution sent their products all over the world. People
  3. We will then participate in an online discussion where you will share what you discovered. Use the following paragraph in your English Journal:
    1. The two topics I focused on were...First of all, I found a lot of ideas in the article about Globalization that connected with...(write about the information you annotated for the first topic)...In addition, I was able to find information that connected to the idea of...(write about the information you annotated for the second topic)...Overall, what surprised me the most was...
  4. Copy and paste your paragraph from your English Journal to the online discussion. You must reply to two people. In this discussion I want you to practice building on other people's ideas. Use the following sentences frames when you reply:

Goal: create a visualization of the two articles we have read.

Reading: You should be done with your book by Friday.

Agenda:
  1. Finish the one pager activity. Your must do the following:
    1. Collect important facts, words, phrases, sentences, and ideas from the reading. These should summarize the primary arguments of the text.
    2. You must have drawings that relate to the quotes you chose.
    3. You must have quotes from the article.
    4. You must have a personal response to the article.
    5. Include the Title and Author.
    6. It must fill the entire page, use color, and use ink for the written portion.
