Essential Question: What is the meaning of Freedom?

Goal: identify the struggles, compromises, and contradictions in creating American freedoms

1. Silent Reading - You should finish your two books by next week
2. Begin working on your performance task

The Constitution and Slavery

Essential Question: What is the meaning of Freedom?

Goal: to understand why Slavery was in the Constitution

Agenda:
1. Read silently
2. Finish assignments from yesterday
3. Slavery and the Constitution

We will start by looking at why the Constitution included slavery. I gave each group handouts for this activity.

Look at the blog from YESTERDAY and make sure everything is completed.

Finishing with the Adams Family

Finally, complete a So What? paragraph based on what you learned about Abigail Adams. Describe her views on women and the government. Then write a so what? part of the paragraph. Why do her views on women matter for the fight for freedom? Here is an incomplete paragraph you can use to help:

Finishing with the Slave Narrative

Essential Question: What is the meaning of Freedom?

Goal: to finish our work from yesterday.

Agenda:
1. Read silently for 10 minutes
2. Finish work for Olaudah's narrative.

First, finish your top ten list from yesterday and write the paragraph that goes with it. Choose two or three things from your list to write about.

Second, answer the comprehension check questions on page 97 with your group. This time write in your book instead of using Formative.

Third, complete the Analyze Craft and Structure assignment on page 99. I have recreated the chart on Google Classroom to give you enough space to write.

Finally, work on your vocabulary chart with your group. If you get to this point, you are allowed to listen to music.
