Tuesday

Big Idea: What does food tell us about ourselves and how we treat our planet?

Reading: Today we will read for 10 minutes. Your first book review is due on February 8th. Fill out the reading progress form so that I know what you are reading.

Agenda:
  1. Go to this blog: bit.ly/bhseng11 Make sure you bookmark it.
  2. Open Google Classroom and enter the code: vsk8gh
  3. Open the English Journal document located in Google Classroom.
    1. First, write down, to the best of your ability, what you eat on an average day from sun-up to the last thing you have to eat at night.
    2. Second, you will write about one of the following topics:
      1. To what extent do advertisers influence your choices regarding the amount of water, flavored drinks, processed foods, meat, fish, fresh fruits, vegetables, fast food, sugar, and the like that you feed your body?
      2. Consider what you know about the foods you eat, their origins and their quality. How much do you know about your food?
      3. Evaluate your own dietary habits, and discuss whether and in what ways you might change your diet.
      4. Think about the amount of time and the quality of the time you spend eating. Do you drive and eat? Do you stand or walk while eating? Discuss how often you sit with your friends and family and enjoy the food that you eat.
      5. Certainly, we all are responsible for what we put into our mouths, but at what point do we assume responsibility? At age five, ten, fourteen, eighteen, twenty-one? When (at what age) does a parent’s responsibility end and an individual’s begin?
    3. Fill out this Google Form. What are your food habits?
    4. Work on your first vocabulary assignment. It will be due on Monday.
Success Criteria:
  1. I can reflect on my food habits.
  2. I can have a discussion with other students in class.
Homework:
  1. You should be reading your independent book at home.
  2. You should be working on your vocabulary assignment for this week.
