Station Rotation Day 2

Essential Question: Witch hunts and fear: when can exposing evil go too far?

Goal: to introduce out new unit

Reading: You should be finished with your book by Friday

Agenda:
  1. Today we will catch up on a station you may not have completed yesterday. Then we will do one rotation.
  2. Inquiry Unit with The Crucible as our main text.
    1. We will work on four different stations for the next couple of days.
      1. TED talk station- watch first 14 minutes

          2. Make a slide for each red heading.
          3. Paraphrase the section and include one image
          4. Make sure you use specific words from the section.
          5. Example for The Roaring Twenties
            1. The economy boomed.
            2. Alcohol became illegal.
            3. Radio, Jazz, and movies became popular.
        3. Finally, watch this video clip. You don't have to take notes.

Writing Your Essay

Essential Question: What does our relationship with food reveal about us, and our relationship with the world?

Goal: to write your food essay.

Reading: Continue reading your book. Due March 2nd

Agenda:
  1. What to include in your essay:
    1. Introduction
      1. Hook, Relevance(Why should we care about food?), Thesis (The topics you will cover in your essay).
    2. Body paragraphs
      1. The general argument made by author X in her/his work, _______________, is that _______________. More specifically, X argues that _______________. She/he writes, “ _______________.” In this passage, X is suggesting that _______________. In my view, X is wrong/right, because _______________. More specifically, I believe that _______________. For example, ___________. (From here you can explain your examples. What changes are you going to make? Be specific.)

You might also discuss whether certain types of unhealthy foods should be banned from stores, restaurants, or schools. Write an essay in which you describe a policy or a plan that would improve our food supply or the health of the population. In addition to references to one or more of the four articles, support your plan with logical arguments and evidence.

Goal: to plan out our essay for tomorrow.

Reading: Continue reading your book. Due March 2nd

Agenda:
  1. Choose one of the two topics below to write about:
    1. Personal View: In response to the four articles you read in this module, write an essay in which you state your own personal preferences regarding food and nutrition. In this paper, describe the main criteria by which you will make decisions about food. Discuss what kinds of food you will buy for yourself and your family members, where you will buy it, and how you will prepare it. In addition to references to one or more of the four articles, support your food plan with logical arguments and evidence.

    1. Use the 4 sentence precis model on Google Classroom to Retell the text
    2. Relate the other two articles we read to this article. In Google Classroom, I  moved up the notes you made on the other two articles.
    3. Respond with your own thoughts about the article. How much does advertising influence our food choices? Are young children unfairly targeted? Choose some of the main points you highlighted and write what you think about that topic.

Globalization Online Discussion

Goal: to connect our relationship with food to the world.

Reading: You should be done with your book by Friday.
